I’ve been up in Girdwood for a couple of days. Took a kid to the doctor. Took three kids into Anchorage to school. Saw one perform at a band concert. Taking one to the movies. I’ve been trying to spend about two days a week (two nights) with family in Girdwood. There’s a lot of ministry that can be done online, via email, or on the phone. And some of it, like the reading I needed to do today, can be done anywhere…Seward or Girdwood or Moose Pass or someplace in between…it doesn’t matter.
I was going to head back down the road a little earlier today so I could see the latest play at Seward High School, to support the kids in the churches down there and be part of that community. But my plans changed.
It started yesterday really, at COSTCO. It seems like every trip into Anchorage involves a stop at COSTCO to get something. Yesterday it was fruits and vegetables and applesauce and a whole lot of other stuff that wasn’t really on the list but made it into the cart. While there I ran into someone from Girdwood (it always seems like Girdwood people find each other in COSTCO). This is not someone who is a close personal friend. He’s not a parishioner. He’s not on the Fire Department or Lions Club. However, our paths have crossed many times because we were both involved in the community in many ways…particularly when it came to community meetings where we discussed controversial issues. He’s a “Facebook Friend” and I’ve discovered over the last year or so that this person actually pays attention to what I post on Facebook and actually pays attention to my pictures and reads the blog posts…post like this one here. Among other things, what he said to me as we stood there by the various packaged foods was, “I really enjoy your blog posts. They keep me grounded.”
It was the last word there that caught my attention and stuck with me. ”GROUNDED.”
But wait, there’s more!
